Lesson Plan #3
How Humans Are Creating a Climatic Threat to Every Man, Woman & Child on Earth

Read Chapter 3: The Climatic Singularity.  Then, use the following questions to reinforce your learning and preparation for citizen-activism:

  1. What arguments are typically used by those who deny that global warming is the primary driver of climate change?

  2. How would you explain this statement to a neighbor: “Climate science isn’t fake; climate controversy is.”?
    • Why is that fake controversy potentially dangerous to you and your family?

  3. Why have the facts presented in scientific reports and the observable reality of climate change failed to motivate Americans to act, at least in any substantive way, to resolve the threat?

  4. How has the warning about global warming’s impact on America presented in the 2017 report of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) already begun to come true?
    • Have you been affected by extreme weather and if so, what was that experience like for you and your family?

At this point, pause a moment.  If you were uncertain about any of your answers to the above questions, go back and reread the first four sections of Chapter 3.  If that clarifies your understanding, move on to the next questions.  If not, link up with other citizen-activists and explore the questions further.  Rely on the community to help you build a clearer picture of the Climatic Singularity before moving on to a more detailed explanation of how it will change the lives of every man, woman and child on the planet.

  1. What are the human behaviors that most reputable scientists agree are the principal sources of the greenhouse gases that produce global warming?
    • Why is it so important to act now to address these behaviors even if there might be other causes for the climate change crisis?

  2. What will happen to the climate in America (and everywhere else) once the Earth’s surface becomes 1.5 degrees C / 2.7 degrees F warmer than it was at the dawn of the industrial era?
    • When will this critical temperature point – the Climatic Singularity – be reached and where have you seen that date before?

  3. How will the Climatic Singularity cause Americans to “go from being a generally active and healthy tribe to a dismal species?”
    • Has today’s increasingly severe weather adversely affected your quality of life and if so, how?

  4. Why is water sometimes called “the teeth” of climate change?

  5. How will an unresolved Climatic Singularity affect the flow of immigrants to America and what does that situation portend for the nation’s security?

  6. How would you rewrite the lyrics for America the Beautiful if the country passes the Climatic Singularity without changing the human behaviors that are causing global warming?

  7. What makes the impact of climate change a “governmental malpractice climate tax” and how does that tax affect businesses and individual Americans?

  8. How would you describe the federal government’s failure to address global warming and climate change?
    • What can we learn from our own history – and specifically from the Boston Tea Party – about the only way to correct this failure?

Think back over everything you’ve learned regarding the date for and implications of the Climatic Singularity as well as the human behaviors that are making it a threat for every man, woman and child in America.  Then, ask yourself one final question: are you ready to act to correct this situation?

                        • If so, move on to Chapter 4.
                        • If not, ask yourself why not and if your reasoning justifies your opting out.
